What inspired you to create an skincare formulated with organic Ingredients range of personal skincare and beauty products.
Organic farming is the right thing to do! As a lifelong environmentalist stemming from growing up and surviving the worst PBB spill, in my small hometown, in the history of North America, organic farming protects people, the planet and animals. And organic farming has the added benefit of producing extremely high antioxidant ingredients levels. High antioxidants in our ingredients help fight free radical damage on the skin. We formulate with certified organic ingre-dients.
Our products comply with these regulations:
The California Organic Products Act of 2003, which is the national standard, dictates that cosmetic products sold, labeled, or represented as organic or made with organic ingredients shall contain, at least 70 percent organically produced ingredients
The USDA National Organic Program guidelines dictates that at least 70 percent of the product must be certified organic ingredients (excluding salt and water)
What were the main challenges you faced in order to get it launched; and are you still facing these challenges today?
We faced every challenge in the early days from getting plant-based ingredients to getting organic ingredients, to finding a scientist to work with botanical juice based formulations (as opposed to water or petroleum). And it was hard to get our first retailer—which was Pharmaca—as a wellness pharmacy—they got what we were trying to do! Then ULTA Beauty took a risk on us almost 11 years ago before it was “a thing” to push clean, organic ingredients and natural beauty.
What were the most memorable, defying moments during this time?
Difficulty formulating and helping the customers understand the “why” of clean beauty.
What helped you to see it through to the end?
To be successful as an entrepreneur or a businessperson, one must be persistent, have the ability to overcome all obstacles, be resourceful and always work harder and be more prepared than most!
What are your plans for the next 5 years?
More innovative products brought to you Farm to Beauty! And….we are very excited about our latest launch: Kate Hudson (heart) Juice Beauty Revitalizing Acacia + Rose Powder Mask!
