GreenTalk with Triple Crown Organic BBQ SaucesBack to News

What inspired you to create an USDA accredited range of sauces?
I was inspired to create a line of organic bbq sauces because I believe that organic consumers should be able to choose best-of-class products, no matter what the category. Organic should never mean second class taste. Proof of concept is our consistently high scores at the American Royal World Series of BBQ Sauce Contest held each year in Kansas City, Missouri. This year our Classic sauce won third place in its category. This is the biggest and most important sauce contest in the USA, with almost 400 sauces in competition.
What were the main challenges you faced in order to get it started; and are you still facing these challenges today?
The main challenge has been the fact that there are thousands of brands of BBQ sauce out there on the shelves. This is still the reality, so, it is standing out in the taste department that makes it work for us.
What were the most memorable, defying moments during this time?
One of the most memorable moments was getting invited to be on the shelves at all Whole Foods Mar-ket stores in the Midwest Region of the USA, over 50 stores. This happened because of a great deal of time and effort building successful relationships with the 7 stores in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, where the business is based. It was getting out there sampling product and getting to know the staff at these stores that made it happen. It wasn’t easy and took many years to get to this point of success and affirmation. Another defining moment was when I decided to launch our Black Garlic BBQ sauce. After tasting black garlic at a garlic festival I knew it was going to be an excellent addition to our BBQ sauce line. Now it is often outselling our original sauce at events! Wow.
What helped you to see it through to the end?
Knowing that we have wonderful prod-ucts that could succeed if supported properly. Of course, relying upon the success of the business financially was and is a big motivator. It has to succeed!
What are your plans for the next 5 years?
Continued expansion in the USA as well as in export markets, especially in Europe. We now have a second production facility in the EU (Lithuania) which offers great logistics as well as better pricing (no ocean transport, no tariffs). Overall, branding evolution as well as overall
professionalization of the company.
